March 23, 2017

GUELPH, Ontario – On March 21, the Upper Grand District School Board participated in World Down Syndrome Day. On World Down Syndrome Day people show their support by rocking socks with crazy patterns and bright colours.

Mismatched or brightly coloured socks are worn on World Down Syndrome Day to raise awareness about inclusion. When people wear different or unique socks, they highlight diversity and create awareness by saying ‘even though I may be different, I should still be accepted.’

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated in many different countries as a fun way of getting people to talk about down syndrome. Many students and staff at the UGDSB rocked their socks and started conversations about down syndrome in their classrooms.
