Walking School Bus pilot project kicks off at Mitchell Woods PS

April 29, 2019

GUELPH, Ontario – Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services (STWDSTS) kicked off their pilot program for the Walking School Bus today at Mitchell Woods PS.

STWDSTS announced this pilot project on October 3 at their Walk to School Day celebration. This program allows students to walk to school under the supervision of a paid “walking school bus driver.”

This innovative project is a way to get students to and from school safely in a group. Adult supervisors are screened, trained and managed by STWDSTS.

Today, the first Walking School Bus at Mitchell Woods PS saw some very excited students and bus leaders bundled for this morning’s forecast eager to be participating in the first run of this great project.

Students learned about walking safety and arrived at school as a group in time for classes to start.
