WHSS principal named to Ontario Principals’ Council executive

GUELPH, Ontario – Brian Serafini, the principal at Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest, has been named to the provincial executive of The Ontario Principals’ Council (OPC). He will serve with President Ken Arnott, a principal from the York Region District School Board and five additional Ontario principals.

A member of OPC since 2001, Serafini was on the Development Team for the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Workshop and has presented provincially on PLCs and the Principals Performance Appraisal. He was part of the organizing committee for OPC’s 2009 and 2010 Odyssey Conferences. This year he is co-chairing the OPC Social Justice Conference being held in October.

For the past four years Serafini has been on the executive of the local Upper Grand chapter of the OPC.

The Ontario Principals’ Council is the voluntary, professional association representing more than 5,000 principals and vice-principals in Ontario’s public elementary and secondary schools. Besides organizing conferences and providing professional supports, OPC works with the Ministry of Education, stakeholder groups, the media and public, and advocates on behalf of education for its members.

Doug Morrell, now the Upper Grand District School Board’s Superintendent of Program (formerly Superintendent of Education and principal of Centre Dufferin DHS) served as president of the OPC from July 1, 2009 to June 31, 2010.
