COVID-19 Reporting – Cases in Schools

UPDATED: January 18, 2022

Reporting of COVID-19 Cases

The Ministry is planning to suspend the reporting of positive cases and further information will be shared shortly with school boards on reporting expectations of absences and school closures due to COVID-19.

Changing Role of Public Health

COVID-19 testing and outbreak management is changing to focus provincial resources on the highest risk settings (e.g. hospitals, long term care homes, etc.).  Staff and student contact tracing in schools will no longer be a part of the process and COVID-19 cases will not routinely be reported to schools. Public Health will no longer be dismissing class cohorts following an exposure in the school setting. This is a significant shift in how COVID-19 cases have been previously managed.

Daily Absence Tracking Pilot

Starting when in-person learning resumes in January, the UGDSB is reporting daily on school absence rates. This process is a pilot program and may evolve as required. The UGDSB’s pilot program is meant to give a sense of the impact of COVID-19 on schools, as positive cases will no longer be reported.

Layers of Protection

Everyone is encouraged to continue following all the health and safety requirements and guidelines in place, including daily screening for symptoms, isolating if experiencing symptoms, wearing a mask, increasing ventilation, cohorting and distancing.

The Upper Grand District School Board will inform students, families and staff about confirmed cases of COVID-19, in alignment with Ministry of Education guidelines. The UGDSB will post information on this page when we receive notification from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health of a confirmed case of COVID-19 involving a student or staff member in a school setting.

Important: A positive case at a school does not mean the individual was exposed to COVID-19 at the school. They may have been exposed somewhere else in the community. The identity of the individual is protected by privacy legislation and will not be shared.

Schools with active COVID-19 cases

This report lists schools that have active cases of COVID-19. Once a case has been resolved, it will be removed from this report.

*This page reports the active cases in UGDSB schools, as reported directly to the board by Public Health. Please note that we are aware that at times there are discrepancies between the information on this page and the information on the province’s reporting page, often due to differences in timing of posting. The information on this page is accurate and comes directly from Public Health.
