Elementary students go head-to-head in annual UGDSB chess tournament

ABERFOYLE, Ontario – More than 160 students from across the Upper Grand District School Board were in Aberfoyle on Thursday, going head-to-head in the board’s annual chess tournament.
The students, in grades 1 through 8, represented 14 schools across the Upper Grand.
Students played five rounds of chess throughout the day to determine the winning teams per grade and the overall winning school.
Local chess expert, Hal Bond, served as the official adjudicator and pairing master, matching up players in the same grade or one grade above or below.
