Nominations open for Everyday Hero Awards

MEDIA RELEASE

March 13, 2015

GUELPH, Ontario – There was the family who built a school yard ice rink used by the whole community.

Students who needed winter toques or running shoes? The Office Coordinator and parent volunteers at one school made sure they got them.

These were some of the Everyday Heroes in the Upper Grand District School Board last year. Award nominations are now open for the current year, and the question is – who will be winners?

Tireless school volunteers, role model teachers, bus drivers who go the extra mile, crossing guards who save lives – anyone who goes above and beyond what is expected is being sought by the board for honour as an Everyday Hero.

“These are people who are the backbone of our school system,” said Board Chair, Mark Bailey.

“Unassuming, generous and caring, we know that these unsung heroes are making the teaching and learning experience better for our students and all of us.”

Candidates can be any employee, a volunteer, individual, community groups active in schools – anyone who has a relationship with the system across Dufferin and Wellington Counties and the City of Guelph. Nominations are from peers, students, parents and other system partners.

Nominations are open until Thursday April 17, 2015. The Awards ceremony is set for Wednesday, May 27 at the E.L. Fox Auditorium (John F. Ross CVI), 21 Meyer Drive, Guelph beginning at 7:00 p.m. A reception will follow the awards.
