SWAF program to help employees in Minto, Wellington North earn their OSSD
For Immediate Release
December 1, 2016
GUELPH, Ontario – School within a Factory (SWAF) is heading north. The innovative program assists adult students in earning their Ontario Secondary School Diploma, while remaining full-time employees.
Following an extremely successful inaugural year in Guelph with the Linamar Corporation, the Upper Grand District School Board’s SWAF program has expanded. The program will now also accommodate employees in Mount Forest, Arthur, Palmerston and Harriston.
SWAF was designed to:
- bring the classroom to the employees to provide one-on-one help
- be flexible to accommodate the student’s work schedule and other responsibilities
- offer courses that have both in-class and independent self-study components
- give support to working adults as they complete high school courses
The UGDSB is hosting a Meet & Greet on Dec. 9. The event will bring together local businesses with SWAF pioneers, teachers and students as well as representatives from our corporate partners Musashi Auto Parts Inc. and Dana Incorporated to celebrate the new program. Attendees will also hear first-hand how SWAF has the potential to change lives.
