Westside SS Concert Band wins Gold at MusicFest Nationals

 Westside Secondary School Concert Band

The Westside Secondary School Concert Band, under the direction of Christa Padgett, competed at The Nationals in Toronto on Wednesday May 13, 2015 winning a Gold Award for their performance. In its 43rd celebration year, MusicFest Canada “The Nationals” brought thousands of students and educators from across the country together, over a one-week period, to celebrate excellence in musical performance. Not only does MusicFest Canada showcase the talent and knowledge of esteemed clinicians and adjudicators from across North America, it also showcases Canada’s own landscape by hosting the festival in a different metropolitan city each year.

The WSS Concert Band is made up of 35 students from grade 9 to 12. They have rehearsed for many hours, building on their musical skills and sharing their love of music. This past March they competed in the Georgian Bay Regional Music Fest in Collingwood, Ontario receiving a high sliver which qualified the ensemble for The Nationals. This hardworking group represented Westside and the Orangeville community with pride. When they received word of their Gold Award, it was met with great enthusiasm!
