CWDHS raises more than $100,000 for Relay for Life

June 1, 2023

Fergus, ON — Congratulations to Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) for raising an incredible amount of money for Relay for Life – a fundraising campaign by the Canadian Cancer Society.

CWDHS teacher Erik Gitter and his senior executive team members Ryan and Juliana were among those to come up with the financial goals for the Relay for Life Campaign and the strategies on how they would reach their financial goal.

“The leadership that our committee had transformed the students, getting to see their leadership in action was incredible,” said Gitter of Ryan, Juliana and the rest of the Relay for Life team.

Juliana went over the many events and challenges they did to get students to participate in fundraising like dunking their teachers in water, offering haircuts and waxing services, “We tried to get everybody by encouraging them to sign up, that’s how we had more participants.”

When the team began their planning for the campaign their first goal was to raise $45,000 which they surpassed before the day of the event. They then moved their goal to $75,000 dollars which they also exceeded. In total CWDHS has raised $103,000.

Ryan and Juliana are seniors and they hope that this year’s initiative has laid the groundwork to get ninth and tenth graders to pick up the mantle for Relay for Life in the following years.
