French Immersion Starting in Rockwood in September 2014

MEDIA RELEASE

For Immediate Release
November 7, 2013

Guelph, Ontario:  French Immersion (FI) will begin in Rockwood in the 2014-15 school year in response to the ongoing support of the Rockwood community and early registration numbers that confirm that a program is viable.   Trustees approved the FI report at the Program Committee meeting on November 6, subject to ratification at the Board Meeting on November 26, 2013.

Approximately 39 new students in K/SK/Grade 1 signed up at early registration (October 1 and 2) for 2014.  Those currently enrolled in JK and SK at King George and Brisbane public schools, a total of 15, did not have to register.  They are already enrolled in FI and are expected to be accommodated in Rockwood.  The program will increase by one grade each year.

Implementation plans contained in New Rockwood Elementary Boundary Review Report #3 will determine the appropriate location or locations for the program.  The boundary review will also confirm if the FI program is JK to grade 6, or JK to grade 8.
