GUELPH, Ontario — The Ontario government has announced the details for implementing the final two years of full-day kindergarten across the province. Every four- and five-year-old child will be able to go to full-day kindergarten by September 2014.

“We’re pleased to have a concrete plan that clearly sets out when full day kindergarten will become available in every school,” said Bob Borden, chair of the Upper Grand District School Board. “Parents of young children now know what to expect.”

Ten additional schools will offer full day kindergarten starting in September 2013, and the remaining 19 elementary schools will begin to offer the program as of September 2014.

Full day kindergarten is being phased in over five years. By this September the program will be up and running in 18 elementary schools in Guelph, Wellington County and Dufferin County.

“By bringing full day kindergarten to all schools by 2014, we are ensuring all Ontario families have access to this innovative program” Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Education said. “Parents and communities benefit when we give our children the best possible start.”

“Many hard-working families in Guelph are benefiting from full day kindergarten this year,” commented Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph. “Every year, even more children and their families are going to have access to this innovative program, giving them a stronger start and a better chance for success.”
