John F. Ross CVI hosts National Theatre School Drama Festival

April 19, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – The National Theatre School Drama Festival made Guelph its home from April 16 to 21 for its 2018 Western Regional Festival.

The festival, formally the Sears Drama Festival, made its debut this year under its new name. John F. Ross CVI was named as the host school for this year’s regional and district festival.

This year’s regional festival included performances from thirteen schools located across Ontario. Any school in Ontario can enter their district festival and must qualify for the regional festival. At Guelph’s district festival, festival adjudicators selected Guelph CVI as the Upper Grand DSB school to compete during the regional festival held at John F. Ross CVI.

John F. Ross CVI was host for the district festival and signed on to host the regional festival to help make ensure a smooth transition from the Sears Festival to the National Theatre School Drama Festival. Students from John F. Ross CVI have participated in the festival for over 50 years. According to the school’s arts teacher and Director of RECAP, Tom Slater, “We believe in the philosophy of the festival, which brings like-minded drama people from all over Ontario to compete in friendly competition while sharing and learning together.”

Students in the Theatre Tech program at John F. Ross CVI worked during the days and evenings to ensure that all the productions were successful.

Congratulations, Guelph CVI Drama students and John F. Ross CVI Theatre Tech students for representing the Upper Grand District School Board at this year’s festival.
