John F. Ross teacher wins ‘Greatest High School Teacher’ award

Guelph, ON – Congratulations to John F. Ross CVI teacher, Tamara Graham for winning Humber College’s Greatest High School Teacher Award.

Every year Humber posts the contest to its current students to nominate a former high school teacher of theirs that inspired them. This year, former John F. Ross student Samantha Hilson nominated Graham with her essay and won. 

As the winner, Hilson will receives a $500 gift certificate to the Humber College bookstore, Hilson and Graham will have the opportunity to attend a special awards ceremony.

Graham as the Greatest High School Teacher Award recipient will choose a student from their school to be awarded a full tuition scholarship to Humber in the name of the Greatest High School Teacher.

“I felt flattered that a student felt strongly enough to write such a wonderful essay about me and that I had such an influence on her,” said Graham about finding out Hilson had nominated her and she had won.

Hilson’s 500 word essay described that Graham “possessed the remarkable ability to make each student feel uniquely valued,” as well as having a “teaching style [that] transformed mundane projects into engaging tasks.”

Graham said she is also honoured to make “such a huge difference in a Ross’ student’s life with the gift of a full scholarship.”
