Let’s celebrate Speech, Language and Hearing Month this May!

May 7, 2024

GUELPH, ON – May is Speech, Language and Hearing Month in Canada. Every year, Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) dedicates May to raising awareness about communication health.

According to the SAC website, they “work to highlight the importance of early detection and intervention in the treatment of communication disorders, and the role that members and associates play in helping people communicate.” The 2024 theme is “Communication is…” As we navigate through the month of May let’s explore what communication is and think about how communication doesn’t come as easily to some as it does others.

As part of the month, May 9 is Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Day. On this day and throughout the month, we can take the opportunity to learn what communication might look like for our peers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
