ORANGEVILLE, Ontario – On April 26, 224 secondary band students joined each other at Westside Secondary School for a day of music.

Westside Band Meet Up 2

The 2nd annual UGDSB Dufferin-Wellington Band Meet-Up included students and staff from Orangeville DSS, Centre Wellington DHS, Wellington Heights SS, Norwell DSS, Erin DHS and Westside SS.

During the first half of the day students were divided into three sections, woodwinds, directed by ODSS’s Allain Brisson, percussion, directed by CWDHS’s Brett Girvin and brass, directed by EDHS’s Cara Cameron and Norwell’s Angela Syer-Murray. Additional staff whose hard work helped contribute to the success of the event included WHSS’s Kim Stewart and Westside’s Christa Davison.

After a large group rehearsal, the students came together in the Westside SS theatre for a massed band performance.

Pieces that could be heard throughout the day included Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Robert Buckley’s “Where Mountains Touch the Sky” and more.

The love for music and enthusiasm could be heard and seen in both students and staff based on the heart and effort they put into the songs they were playing.
