MP Michael Chong to discuss federal politics with John F. Ross students

GUELPH, Ontario – Students at John F. Ross CVI are going to get an insider’s perspective of federal politics.

Grade 12 Canadian and World Politics students will meet with local politician, and candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, MP Michael Chong. They will be joined by students from the school’s United Nations club.

Chong was born in Fergus, Ontario, and has been the MP for Wellington—Halton Hills since 2004. He is one of 14 registered candidates running for the leadership of the CPC.

On Friday Dec. 16, Chong will speak to students about the leadership campaign, working as a Member of Parliament, passing a controversial private member’s bill, and working with a diverse population in a riding.

EVENT DETAILS:

Following Chong’s visit, students will participate in a Model UN simulation, where they will be working on the United Nations Resolution on Counter Terrorism, which was adopted by the United General Assembly in July 2016.
