Peter Katz speaks to W.C. Winegard PS students during Mental Health Week

GUELPH, Ontario – May 7 to 11 is Mental Health Week in the Upper Grand District School Board and many schools are promoting positive mental health with initiatives throughout the week.

On May 8, Peter Katz was at William C. Winegard Public School to talk to intermediate students about mental health. Katz is a Juno nominated motivational speaker, singer and songwriter.

During his visit, Katz spoke to grade 6 to 8 students from William C. Winegard PS and Ken Danby PS about mental health and achieving goals, during a musical performance in the morning.

In the afternoon, Katz held a breakout session for grade 8 students at William C. Winegard PS in which he spoke about overcoming fears to reach your goals.

Katz spoke about creating a safe space for students by promoting positive speech and supporting fellow classmates. He discussed how important it is that the information shared in the safe space should remain in the safe space.

Katz had students thinking about the future, sharing fears and anxieties and working on exercises to overcome these anxieties.
