Reopening Schools: Parent Guide and Pre-Registration survey released

August 6, 2020

The Upper Grand District School Board is working hard to get schools ready to welcome back students and staff this September. The board has released a detailed Parent Guide on the reopening of schools. Schools will also release school plans with additional school-specific information prior to the start of the school year.

Due to the unprecedented situation schools are in as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, all parents/guardians in the UGDSB are required to pre-register their children for school this year, to allow schools to plan for the return of students.

On July 30, 2020, the Ministry of Education announced its decision for the reopening of schools in September. All elementary and secondary schools in the Upper Grand District School Board are to reopen under a conventional model in September. This means that all schools will open to students for in person learning, five days a week.

The province also stated that parents/guardians will have the choice to keep their child at home if they do not feel comfortable returning to school in person in the fall.

Therefore, there are two options for UGDSB students:

  1. Attend school in person, or
  2. Participate in remote/distance learning from home

Students cannot attend school part-time and also participate in distance learning. For detailed information about what these options look like, please review the information in our Parent Guide at www.ugdsb.ca/fall2020

In order for schools to be prepared for September, parents must complete a student pre-registration survey by August 14, 2020. The school board requires this information now to ensure that adequate staff, resources and transportation are in place. Pre-Registration for all students is required; parents will be required to complete a pre-registration form for each student in their family.

The deadline to pre-register for the fall reopening of school is August 14, 2020.
