Running for Terry: UGDSB schools raise funds for cancer research through the Terry Fox Run

September 27, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – During the last week of September, students and staff across the Upper Grand District School Board took some time to reflect on the life of Terry Fox, while raising money for cancer research.

Across the board, schools held Terry Fox runs or walks, circling their school or neighbourhood and encouraging people to donate what they can to the Terry Fox Foundation.

On April 12, 1980, Terry Fox set out on his cross Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Fox’s Marathon of Hope touched the lives of so many people and since then, every year over 25 countries participate in Terry Fox Runs and fundraising events.

Upper Grand staff and students worked hard to organize events and raise funds. Many schools have been supporting the cause for more than 20 years.

At Central Public School, students watched a video detailing Terry Fox’s life and legacy, before heading out together for a school-wide walk.
