Spots available for UGDSB youth at sports leadership summer camp in Shelburne

July 24, 2017

SHELBURNE, Ontario – A few spots are still available for a summer camp in Shelburne that helps youth develop leadership skills and build character in a fun and interactive setting.

One Voice, One Team’s “S.W.O.L.E.” Sports Leadership Summer Camp is a co-ed sports leadership camp for students 7-13 years old.

The group is holding a second week of camp at Glenbrook Elementary School from July 31-August 4, open to all students in the area. Camp runs Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Through daily fitness and cognitive activities, the camp teaches students about S.W.O.L.E., that is, self-respect, working hard, overcoming adversity, leading by example, and excellence.

Youth from local high schools are trained and employed as junior camp counsellors and work alongside senior staff to delivery programming for the younger students.

Upper Grand DSB staff said that students leave camp feeling uplifted, believed in, feeling like they can make a difference in the world.

For more information on the camp that will run out of Glenbrook ES, visit the One Voice, One Team website.
