Supporting Students and Staff: Russian invasion of Ukraine

February 25, 2022

In the last couple of days, many worldwide have been watching the devastating situation unfold in the Ukraine. Our thoughts are with our students and families as this situation continues to unfold.

These actions deeply affect millions of people including some in the Upper Grand District School Board. The violence and uncertainty associated with this situation may cause pain and trauma to many in our communities.

These events can cause stress and worry about the safety of families and loved ones, both at home and abroad.

We want to ensure that students, staff and families are supported during this extremely painful and difficult time. We all have a responsibility to ensure that our school communities are inclusive and safe for all, free of oppression and hate.

If you or someone you know is struggling or needs someone to talk to, supports are available both within our schools and within our communities.

UGDSB Support Services staff are available to support students and can be arranged through students’ classroom teacher.

For staff who are in need of support, we encourage you to reach out to the board’s Employee and Family Assistance Program.

We encourage anyone in need of assistance to reach out for support and for everyone to support those around them.
