TJRC hosts two PD events for board staff

May 25, 2023

GUELPH, ON – Earlier this month Terry James Resource Centre (TJRC) staff hosted two Professional Development (PD) sessions for Upper Grand Teacher Librarians and Library Technicians.

The first of their kind since before the COVID-19 pandemic, the goal of each of these PD events was to give teacher librarians a supportive space for peer-to-peer learning, collaboration and to help aid in the building of leadership skills.

On May 18, UG elementary staff met at the TJRC where they launched new working groups to increase teacher librarians’ efficiency, efficacy, and self-esteem in the Learning Commons in the areas of co-teaching and collaboration, makerspace and hands-on learning, research and information literacy, advocacy and engagement, and accessibility.

On May 24, UG secondary staff participated in a learning PD where staff shared what they’ve been doing in their Learning Commons this year. Staff discussed their strategies for success through presentations on various topics including digital resources to support student research, collection management, categorizing, collaborative programing and community engagement.

Staff said that these sessions were helpful and constructive and a great opportunity to connect with colleagues and collaborate with each other on common goals.

The TJRC looks forward to hosting similar PD sessions for staff in the future.
