UG alum claims gold at national martial arts competition

KITCHENER, ON – Congratulations to local Martial Artist and UGDSB Alumni Nathan Skoufis, who claimed Gold in the Canadian Open Martial Arts Championships this past weekend in Kitchener, Ontario.

The Canadian Open Martial Arts Championships hosted competitors from throughout North America in a variety of fighting styles like Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Kickboxing, Kung Fu and many more.

Skoufis claimed 1st place in men’s adult fighting. The fighting winners are all brought together to compete for the Overall Grand Champion title, the heavyweight, lightweight and senior fighting first place winners all fight until one person is crowned the “overall all weight champion.” Skoufis was crowned the overall champion. 

Skoufis has now won the title for the eleventh straight year at the Canadian Open Championships breaking a martial arts record in the process. 

Since starting the sport at the age of four, Skoufis has won Multiple Time World Champion, earned a 6th Degree Black Belt, is a member of Team Canada and Lifetime Resident of the Area.
