UG students attend interactive agricultural career fair

November 29, 2023

ELORA, ON – Old MacDonald had a farm and on that farm were cows, pigs and alpacas and a variety of career options for Upper Grand DSB students to explore.

Last week Thursday, AgScape, Grand River Agricultural Society (GRAS), and the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) collaborated to host a day-long career fair for more than 600 students.

Students rotated between 12 stations where they met and spoke with agricultural industry representatives to learn about Ontario’s agriculture and agri-food sector and gain firsthand insights into the wide range of career opportunities available within the sector.

Representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), 4-H Ontario, Beef Farmers of Ontario, Conestoga Meats, and many more were present to run the interactive, hands-on stations and help students make real-world connections.

Students spent between 10-12 minutes at each station and participated in activities that would allow  them to demonstrate teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills and overall agriculture and food knowledge.
