UGDSB celebrates the ‘Rock Your Mocs’ initiative

November 14, 2022

The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) and the Indigenous Education department invite all students and staff to participate in the “Rock Your Mocs’ initiative.

The “Rock Your Mocs” initiative is held from November 13 to the 19 and is described as an international Indigenous peoples virtual unity event.

You can participate in the Rock Your Mocs initiative by taking a photo or short video of yourself wearing your moccasins and sharing it online with us on either Instagram (@uppergrand)  or Twitter (@ugdsb) using #UGDSBRockYourMocs for a chance to win a pair of moccasins by an Indigenous artist. You can wear a pair of moccasins for one day out of the school week or the entire week. The choice is yours.

The purpose of Rock Your Mocs week is to develop a positive and inclusive environment to share tribal individuality united by wearing moccasins and to use this week as an opportunity to develop and implement Indigenous content and resources into the curriculum; curriculum that focuses on Indigenous rights, human rights, colonialism and anti-colonial practices.
