UGDSB holding concussion awareness workshops
For Immediate Release
March 29, 2016
GUELPH, Ontario – The Upper Grand District School Board is holding workshops to raise awareness of concussions in youth.
Children and adolescents are among those at greatest risk for concussions, which can have a serious effect on a young, developing brain. However, proper recognition and response to a concussion can prevent further injury and help with recovery.
Although falls and motor vehicle accidents are the leading causes of concussions, physical activity and sports also pose a risk.
The board is holding three workshops across the district to increase the awareness of concussions risks and to help parents and students identify concussion signs and symptoms.
The workshops dates are:
- Wednesday April 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Westside SS, 300 Alder St, Orangeville (in the library)
- Tuesday May 10 from 7- 8:30 p.m. at Norwell DSS, 135 Cumberland Street, Palmerston (in the library)
- Wednesday May 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Centennial CVI, 289 College Ave W, Guelph (in the lecture room)
