UGDSB schools reach milestone donation mark with Terry Fox Foundation

April 14, 2021

GUELPH, Ontario – Schools in the Upper Grand District School Board should be very proud of the efforts they made this year and in pervious years to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation.

According to the Terry Fox Foundation, UGDSB schools “showed resilience and compassion this year in the midst of the global pandemic,” by finding creative and safe ways for students and staff to participate in the Terry Fox School Run.

Many UGDSB schools promoted virtual fundraising efforts by hosting virtual staff challenges, walking safely as a cohort or promoting fundraising efforts through social media.

In 2020, the UGDSB raised $35,328.15 for the Terry Fox Foundation’s cancer research program. This money will be used to fund cancer research projects across Canada.

One UGDSB school placed on the Top 50 Fundraising Schools in Ontario list for the year 2020. This year, the Elementary Remote School (ERS) placed 14th overall in Ontario for their fundraising efforts. In October, the Administrative Team helped promote this fundraiser by participating in activities like dressing as an otter, shaving their head, running a half marathon and taking a chilly dip in the Grand River. At the end of the fundraiser, the ERS Otters had raised more than $6,000.

This year was also a special year for the board, as the UGDSB reached the fundraising milestone of raising $2,000,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation through yearly school runs.

Great job UGDSB!
