Upper Grand DSB students compete for the title of Canada’s Greatest Music Class

November 29, 2016

GUELPH, Ontario – Upper Grand District School Board music students are vying for the title of Canada’s Greatest Music Class.

In association with MusiCounts, CBC Music is challenging Canadian classrooms to perform covers of a Canadian song, with no lip-syncing allowed.

Students in elementary and secondary schools in the UGDSB responded to the request and submitted their versions of Canadian songs. Songs could be submitted in a traditional style or something more cutting edge.

Guelph CVI’s music program submitted their video to “We’re Here for a Good Time” by Trooper. This creative music video references other music videos including “Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson.

John Black Public School’s music club created an awesome sound for their cover of The Tragically Hip’s “Ahead by a Century,” by using several ukuleles, guitars, a bass player, percussionist and keyboardist.

John F. Ross CVI’s guitar class decided to put an 80s spin on their rendition of Sean Mendes’ “Stitches.” This hard rock version of this cover features guitar, bass and drum solos.

King George Public School’s Glee club submitted their version of “Stitches,” by Shawn Mendes. This version of the song featured ukuleles, bass guitar and electric guitar.

At Rickson Ridge PS, it was a group effort as students and staff lined the halls to record their cover of “We’re Here for a Good Time” by Trooper. Incorporating all students and various instruments, this cover really captured teamwork.

Good luck to all the Upper Grand classrooms that participated in CBC’s Greatest Music Class.
