Westside hosts 15th annual Pink Day fundraiser

October 25, 2019

ORANGEVILLE, Ontario – It is a sea of pink on Friday at Westside Secondary School.

On Friday Oct. 25, the Orangeville high school hosted its 15th annual Pink Day fundraiser.

Students and staff came to school dressed in pink, ready to raise thousands of dollars for breast cancer research.

Since 2004, students and staff at Westside SS have raised more than $160,000 through the Pink Day fundraisers for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada (BCSC) and their “Dress for the Cause” fundraising campaign.

For the past several years, Westside has been named the top fundraiser for the annual Dress for the Cause campaign, and the school hope they can hold that title for a 5th straight year.

Breast cancer awareness is a very personal issue for many students and staff at the school and the commitment to raising money and awareness for the BCSC really shines through in the Westside community.

The day started with an early morning pancake breakfast, where school community members joined the school to celebrate, including school board trustees and the Orangeville Police.

Activities this year include a Pink Day video games tournament, live music from the Pink Day band, and the annual Pink Day assembly where the whole school gets together to raise funds through energetic and competitive activities, as well as head shaving and hair chopping.

Other fundraisers happening at the school include a number of services in the Cosmo Room, such as pink nail polish, pink boxer braids, pink hair foils and henna, as well as Pink Day Karaoke and more.
