Westside SS students announced winners of essay contest

May 9, 2023

ORANGEVILLE, ON – Two students from Westside Secondary School were recently announced as the winners of the Ontario Schools Cricket Association (OSCA) essay contest, which was held in November 2022.

The OSCA is a non-profit organization that works with Ontario schools to promote healthy, active living through cricket programs. This year’s essay contest “The Crown, Cricket and Canada,” invited students from across the province to submit essays about the history and heritage of cricket in Canada, promoting academic development and active learning through cricket.

After reviewing the many submissions that came in from all over the province, a panel of judges selected the top essays.

Winning the essay contest were two students from Westside SS. Congratulations Kendal and Noah for this incredible achievement.

Superintendent of Education Pat Hamilton was at Westside SS on May 9, 2023, to present Kendal and Noah with their awards.

According to the OSCA, “placing in a province-wide contest is an immense achievement, and these students should be very proud.”

The OSCA would like to thank the teachers and administrators who encouraged Noah and Kendal to submit essays to this contest.

Congratulations to everyone involved and especially to Noah and Kendal for this great achievement.
