After a successful launch in 2024, Project SEARCH kicked off its sophomore year this week with special Signing Day ceremonies at the University of Guelph on Tuesday, September 16 and the YMCA Three Rivers of Guelph on Wednesday, September 17.
Project SEARCH is an in-depth training program for students with disabilities who are entering their final year of high school. The program provides participants with employment skills and hands-on work experience geared to in-demand roles in the local labour market.
The UGDSB are partners in Project SEARCH, along with the Wellington Catholic District School Board, University of Guelph, March of Dimes Canada, and YMCA Three Rivers of Guelph.
“Project SEARCH allows us to enhance interns' employability skills and to help address the unemployment rates for people with disabilities,” April King, Principal of Care and Treatment, Special Education Accessibility & Project SEARCH at the UGDSB said.
“We truly do believe in inclusion and equitable access for all students, this is just one example of our work that demonstrates this.”
