GUELPH, Ontario – A Special Board Meeting of the Upper Grand District School Board was held on April 14, 2020. The following provides highlights from the meeting as well as highlights from standing committee meetings held in March.

School Year Calendar for 2020-21

Upper Grand District School Board trustees approved draft school year calendars for the 2020-2021 school year for elementary and secondary schools in the Upper Grand DSB.

The draft calendars will now be submitted to the Ministry of Education for final approval.

The calendars were reviewed by a committee of stakeholders, including representatives from all bargaining units, principals, human resources, board staff and parents.

The proposed calendars meet all of the requirements under Ontario Regulation 304 and abide by the elementary and secondary teachers’ collective agreements. Both calendars have 194 school days, including seven professional activity days. Ten instructional days have been scheduled for secondary exams.

It is proposed that students start the year on Sept. 8, 2020. For the Christmas break, classes will run until Friday Dec. 18, 2020, and return after the holidays on Monday Jan. 4, 2021. March Break will be from March 15 to 19, 2021. The last day of school will fall on June 25, 2021 for secondary students and June 29 for elementary students. The Wellington Catholic District School Board will be submitting a similar calendar to the Ministry for approval.

The draft calendars are posted on the board website under School Year Calendars.

2020 Long Term Accommodation Plan (LTAP) Annual Review Report

Staff presented the 2020 Long-Term Accommodation Plan (LTAP) Annual Review Report. The UGDSB LTAP was completed during the 2017-18 school year. The LTAP is a strategic review of the UGDSB’s facilities, population projections, and enrolment forecasts, and is an important step in ensuring alignment of school facilities with the needs of the board and the communities it serves. Each year, the LTAP is reviewed to ensure the priorities and timelines outlined in the LTAP remain appropriate. The annual LTAP report also contains information on the utilization of UGDSB schools, information on French Immersion enrolment, and information related to facility partnerships and co-build opportunities.
