Grade 8 students gain career information at 2018 Career Pathways event

October 23, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – On October 18, the Career Education Council (CEC) of Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin presented an opportunity for grade 8 students to learn about a variety of careers at an event held in Guelph.

Grade 8 classes from Guelph and Wellington came together at the Hanlon Convention Centre in Guelph to speak to exhibitors and gain information on the skills and education required in potential future occupations. Students were also given the opportunity to learn and hear about various volunteer opportunities available in the region.

The CEC is a registered charity that connects business and education to help students to learn about careers and gain work experience in Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin.

This year’s Career Pathways event included many exhibitors, school initiatives and a panel of guest speakers. Notably, more than 1,100 grade 8 students in the Upper Grand DSB and the Wellington Catholic DSB attended the event. The event was divided into morning and afternoon sessions with three rotations in each.  The event featured indoor and outdoor displays as well as interactive areas and a speaker’s panel featuring interesting local speakers sharing career insights.
