Guelph CVI showcases electric car at CNE

September 6

GUELPH, ON – On September 4, Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute’s (GCVI) SHSM electric car was on display at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE).

GCVI was invited to showcase the vehicle as part of the University of Waterloo Engineering display – an example of what technological education can be achieved at the secondary level.

GCVI has participated in the electric car race circuit annually and has received many awards and recognitions for design and innovation over the years. The students at GCVI design and build the vehicles from the ground up. Students leave this program prepared for fields in the apprenticeship, workplace, college or university pathways.

The program is headed by Manufacturing Technology Teacher Matt Lyle. Lyle integrates both practical machine shop skills and engineering into his program. Their electric car represents the pinnacle of this achievement.
