Summer mental health support for students

Mental Health supports are available for students in Summer 2024!

To support belonging and connectedness, summer mental health services will be provided through therapeutic groups, which will be co-delivered by UGDSB staff and community service providers. 

Summer mental health supports are meant to be a continuation of service over the summer months and support to transition into a new school year for those currently receiving supports from board mental health staff. 

For Summer 2024 there are four programs that eligible parents/caregivers and students can self refer for:
  1.  TUFF Equine Therapy Session 1:  July 16, 17, 18, 2024 from 9am-3pm at 4458 Concession Road 4 in Loretto, Ontario, for students in grades 7-12 who identify as Black. This group will focus on elevating and affirming the voices of our Black students.  Students will be welcomed into the program, to identify their strengths, affirm each other, be heard and focus on mental health and wellness. The program will involve horses to promote teamwork, self-confidence, self-esteem and mental health and wellness. 
  2. TUFF Equine Therapy Session 2:  August 20, 21, 22, 2024 from 9am-3pm 4458 Concession Road 4 in Loretto, Ontario, for students in Grades 7-12 who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+.  This group will welcome and support students to identify their strengths and focus on mental health and wellness through the use of horses. Caring for the horses will involve awareness, building self-confidence and teamwork. 
  3. AFFIRM Online July 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25 from 1:00pm -2:30pm ONLINE for students in Grades 7-12 who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+.  This group will focus on how to make healthy choices to promote mental health and developing coping skills for anxiety and stress. 
  4. Trails Online July 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 2024 from 10am -11am ONLINE  for students in Grades 7, 8 , 9 who struggle with moderate symptoms of stress, anxiety, low mood or depression.  This program will focus on how to develop coping strategies and promote positive mental health. 
All registrations must be in by May 1, 2024.
