Criminal Record Check

It is policy of the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB), as required under the Education Act, to provide a safe and secure working and learning environment for students and employees.

NEW EMPLOYEES TO THE UGDSB:

As a condition of employment, successful external candidates will be required to provide an original Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) prior to the commencement of employment.  The VSC must be dated within 6 months of the start date of employment.  Any expense incurred in obtaining this documentation will be the sole responsibility of the successful candidate.

There are typically three levels of criminal record checks available from most local police services departments.

The successful candidate will be required to request the Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).  If the police department will not process a VSC for the position the candidate was successful for, that candidate must advise their Human Resources representative for direction on the criminal record check to obtain.

WHERE TO REQUEST A VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK:

The successful candidate must request and obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) through the local police services department in the area in which they reside.  It is advised that the successful candidate request a VSC from their local police department as soon as possible as processing times vary.

RETURNING EMPLOYEES:

On an annual basis, employees currently employed by the UGDSB must complete an Offence Declaration at the beginning of a new school year.  If an employee did not work during the previous school year, the individual must submit a new Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
