Upper Grand schools celebrate Education Week

Open doors, unlock potential / Ouvrez de portes, liberez votre potentialThe Ministry of Education has designated the week of May 4 to May 8 as Education Week, a time to “celebrate our accomplishments and reflect on new and exciting challenges ahead.” In the Upper Grand District School Board, this week has been extended from mid-April to mid-May to allow schools the flexibility to plan events and activities to encourage the participation of as many parents, staff, students and community members as possible.

Boundary proposed for new elementary school in East Guelph

The second staff report in the New East Guelph (Couling Crescent) School Boundary Review has put forward just one scenario for the attendance area of a new JK-8 French Immersion (FI) Centre.

The Elementary Skills competition was held on April 2, 2015 at College Heights SS, Centennial CVI and Centennial Arena, with 54 schools participating from across the Upper Grand District School Board.

Elementary Skills Competition grows

It’s the largest Elementary Skills competition in the province with 54 schools from across the Upper Grand District participating, an increase of 22 schools over last year.

Nominations open for Everyday Hero Awards

There was the family who built a school yard ice rink used by the whole community. Students who needed winter toques or running shoes? The Office Coordinator and parent volunteers at one school made sure they got them.

These were some of the Everyday Heroes in the Upper Grand District School Board last year. Award nominations are now open for the current year, and the question is – who will be winners?

Boundary review proposed for new school

The first report of the proposed New East Guelph (Couling Crescent) School Boundary Review will be presented to trustees at the Business Operations Committee meeting on March 10, 2015. The board plans to construct a new JK-8 French Immersion Centre on Couling Crescent by September 2017 to meet enrolment demand. If approved, this boundary review will consider the extent of the current École King George PS JK-8 FI boundary that will be reassigned to the Couling Crescent school. The portion of École Edward Johnson PS’s attendance area assigned to the new school was previously determined in February 2015, with no further changes contemplated.
