Give the kids a brake

On Friday September 11, 2015 the Guelph Police Traffic Unit, with the assistance of members from the Uniform Division wrapped up the first week of their back to school safety initiative. The campaign titled “Give the Kids a Brake” focused on speeding and moving related traffic violations. Each day last week officers were detailed to specific neighborhoods to address community safety concerns. A total of 178 Provincial Offence Notices were issued to drivers for offences including speeding, disobeying stops signs and distracted driving. Additional road safety campaigns will continue over the upcoming weeks. Remember to slow down in the school zones and obey the rules of the road.

Office renamed for former Dufferin County Board of Education director

The UGDSB office at 40 Amelia Street in Orangeville, which houses the Student Support and Program Services Department and Continuing Education, has been renamed the Grant Evans Education Centre. A celebration took place there on September 8 during the Program Committee meeting of the Board. Trustees and senior staff were joined by Grant and several of his friends and former colleagues.

Secondary School Labour Situation Update

Parents/Students:
School start up in all secondary schools will proceed as usual as the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) has suspended sanctions pending ratification of their tentative settlement. Please refer to your child’s school website for additional information regarding activities, events and schedules.

Final boundary set for new elementary school in East Guelph

The attendance area for a new school to be built on Couling Crescent in East Guelph was finalized at the regular meeting of the Upper Grand District School Board on June 23, 2015. Trustees voted to approve the staff recommendations in the final report of the New East Guelph (Couling Crescent) School Boundary Review.

Board passes balanced and compliant 2015-16 Budget

With an operating budget of $349,624,6165 the Upper Grand District School Board passed its budget on June 23, 2015 with thanks to senior administration, finance staff and budget holders who worked since February to develop a balanced and compliant budget.
