Priority 2: Responsive and Equitable Mental Health Supports

What We Heard

Families and staff want clearer pathways to care, more consistent navigation processes, additional school-based supports, and improved access in rural communities.

Goals

  • Simplify and continue to strengthen pathways to care.

  • Strengthen early identification and intervention practices.

  • Understand barriers experienced by rural and underserved communities.

  • Strengthen coordination with community mental health partners.

  • Continue implementation of Prepare, Prevent, Respond (PPR) life promotion framework by providing ongoing training, learning, and capacity-building opportunities for administrators and Child and Youth Counsellors.

  • Utilize measurement-based care practices and system data to assess outcomes, evaluate mental health initiatives, and support continuous improvement.

  • Continue to provide and strengthen Tier 2 and Tier 3 mental health supports, including brief intervention, counselling, consultation, and coordinated pathways to community-based care when required.

  • Students, families and staff report a clear understanding of how to access supports.

  • Students and families report Increased confidence in pathways to care.

  • Community partners and school board mental health support staff report improved coordination between school and community services.
