The Upper Grand District School Board will be raising awareness about concussions as it marks the annual Rowan’s Law Day on September 24, 2025.
Rowan Stringer passed away in 2013 at the age of 17 as the result of head injuries sustained while playing rugby. Rowan’s concussions went unreported, and during her final game, Rowan received a fatal injury known as Second Impact Syndrome. She passed away four days later.
Since 2018, the last Wednesday of each September has been designated as Rowan’s Law Day in Ontario to help raise awareness about concussion safety.
Through learning about Rowan’s Law, we can change Ontario’s culture around sports, physical activity and injury by increasing concussion awareness and knowledge.
The goal of Rowan’s Law is to make it easier for those who experience concussions to speak up, get help and take the time they need to recover.
