On Tuesday, September 30 staff and students at Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute commemorated the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Staff led students through powerful learning, including in-class learning, a memorial assembly, action activities, and a commemorative class walk.

The stations along the commemorative walk included:

  • A National Ceremonies Livestream, where students could watching the National Broadcast of Ceremonies from Parliament Hill and engage in quiet reflection time.

  • Wampum Belt + Call to Action 63, where students learned about

  • Wampum Belts and revisit the school’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #63.

  • Orange Shirt Day Reflection Gallery Walk, students r

    ead reflections written by CCVI students last year and paused to consider the meaning of Orange Shirt Day.

  • Indigenous Languages, students l

    earned why protecting and learning Indigenous languages matters.

  • Land Acknowledgement, where groups explored the impact of land acknowledgements. Students had the opportunity to reflect and share their thoughts.

  • Survivor Story, where students sat quietly and listened to a recorded Survivor’s Story.

  • Every Child Matters Memorial Rock Garden . Students created a visual memorial for residential school students.

Students watch a lecture in a classroom
