A Grade 9 student from Wellington Heights Secondary School recently won an Ontario Volunteer Service Award “in recognition of all of his volunteer efforts.”
Flynn Wettlaufer received the award at a ceremony in London, Ont. on October 23. The award honours volunteers under the age of 24 who have volunteered for two or more years of continuous service.
“I was so shocked when I received this award,” Wettlaufer told EloraFergusToday.com. “I never really thought I would get recognized from the province of Ontario.”
Wettlaufer has volunteered with various organizations in the Wellington North area, including the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival and the Mount Forest Community Garden.
His advice for people around his age looking to volunteer is to “get out there and do the best you can.”
“If you want to volunteer, go ask your local clubs about what you can do to help,” he told EloraFergusToday.com.
