Between February 24-28, sixteen high schools from across southwestern Ontario came together at Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute to compete in the regional competition of the Canadian Improv Games.
For decades the Canadian Improv Games have been celebrated nationally to enrich the lives of students with a love of theatre. At the games, high school student teams compete in a fun competition that focuses on spontaneous, improvised scenes.
This year, the Upper Grand District School Board had several teams competing in the regional competition. UGDSB school teams from Guelph CVI, Centennial CVI and John F. Ross CVI competed against each other and teams from across southwestern Ontario.
After the first days of the competition, teams from Guelph, Chatham, Owen Sound and London advanced to the finals. Guelph CVI’s team “The Unstable Tables,” and Centennial CVI’s team “The Rogues,” represented the UGDSB at finals.
In a very close race, Centennial CVI won the competition for the 2nd year in a row by placing only 12 points ahead of Chatham Kent’s team.
Receiving a special honour, “The Rogues” team captain and grade 12 CCVI student, Aiden Q, was selected to win the Heart of the Games award. This award is presented to a student who shows the most heart during the competition.
Centennial CVI’s team will be heading to Ottawa, Ontario in April to face off against the top 15 teams across the country.
Congratulations to all teams who participated in the competition and to CCVI for placing first regionally.
