A teacher in the Upper Grand District School Board has been recognized for the profound impact they’ve had in mentoring a future teacher.
Jennifer Pigeon, teacher at École Arbour Vista Public School, has been selected by Western University’s Faculty of Education as a winner of their annual Award for Excellence.
Classroom teachers play an essential role in the preparation of new educators. During their schooling, teacher candidates spend time in classrooms as part of their practicum.
“Through their mentorship, Associate Teachers help teacher candidates grow in confidence and skill—offering guidance in lesson planning, reflective analysis of teaching practice, classroom management, and the many responsibilities of effective teaching. By modelling professionalism, care for students, and thoughtful instructional practice, Associate Teachers help establish the standards of excellence that shape the next generation of educators,” said representatives from Western University.
Jennifer’s mentorship had a profound impact on her teacher candidates.
“She created a classroom environment where the candidate felt welcomed, trusted, and supported as a genuine partner in the learning community. Jennifer is recognized for providing thoughtful encouragement alongside detailed, practical feedback that helped her candidate reflect on their teaching and build confidence over time,” said Western officials.
Through her mentorship, Jennifer is helping ensure that the next generation of teachers enters the profession with the skills, confidence, and care needed to support students.
“It is truly a privilege to work alongside teacher candidates as they begin their teaching journey. Supporting and learning with the next generation of educators is incredibly rewarding, and I'm honoured to receive this recognition from Western University,” said Jennifer.
Congratulations Jennifer!
