As of March 2025, the Upper Grand District School Board has raised more than $2.5M for The Terry Fox Foundation throughout all our schools. This figure includes the $122,067.91 the UGDSB raised in 2024.
Four schools have raised over $100,000 to date, including Centennial Collegiate and Vocational Institute ($254,093.73), Erin District High School ($210,751.15), John F. Ross Collegiate and Vocational Institute ($103,858.91), and Norwell District Secondary School ($100,771.58).
The top schools that raised money in 2024 include Willow Road PS ($7,027.60), Westminster Woods PS ($6,549.25), and John McCrae PS ($6,175.00).
Over 10,000 schools across the country raised close to $14M for cancer research in 2024.
“Your students have shown themselves to be positive agents of change, empowered and determined to lead the fight against cancer,” a letter from the Foundation says.
Terry Fox set out on his Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980 in St. John's, Newfoundland. His goal was to raise money and awareness for cancer research while running across the country. After 143 days, 5,373 kilometres, and over $24.17M raised, cancer returned to his lungs and he was forced to stop on September 1, 1980. He died at the age of 22 on June 28, 1981.
