Students in the Upper Grand District School Board are getting hands-on learning experiences, while supporting a local affordable housing project.
Over several days in late May students from both Centre Wellington District High School in Fergus and John F. Ross CVI in Guelph are on site with Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington staff and skilled trades mentors.
They are helping with framing and carpentry projects for Garafraxa Village, a new affordable housing community being built in Fergus.
Also on site are volunteers and representatives from the Co-operators, whose generous sponsorship of the event made it possible.
As students measure, cut, frame and more, they are gaining developing knowledge in the skilled trades and also supporting affordable housing in the community.
