Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we recognize Pride Month across the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB), we take this time to reaffirm our commitment to safe, welcoming, and inclusive schools and workplaces, places where every student and staff member can see themselves reflected, respected, and supported. We honour the joy, strength, and contributions of our 2SLGBTQIA+ students, staff, and families. Pride is more than a month on the calendar; it is a celebration of identity, and community.
Public education has a responsibility to honour the dignity and human rights of all members of our community, including those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+. In accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, UGDSB is committed to ensuring that everyone can express who they are free from discrimination, harm, or exclusion.
Our schools are diverse, vibrant places of learning. During Pride Month and every month we take intentional steps to ensure all students know they belong. That includes raising the Pride flag, affirming student identities in classrooms, and fostering inclusive, joyful celebrations that reflect the diversity of our communities.
UGDSB does not accept any form of hate, harassment, or discrimination. We are committed to upholding human rights in all our schools and workplaces, and we act in accordance with board policies and legislation to ensure that those rights are protected.
This June, we invite you to join us in celebrating Pride, in your homes, in your communities, and in our schools. Together, we can build a brighter future for all students.
Happy Pride — and thank you for supporting a culture of dignity, and respect for all .
Sincerely,
Ralf Mesenbrink, Chair of the Board
