The Upper Grand District School Board recognizes the valuable contributions of school volunteers and this policy conveys the board’s commitment to welcoming them while ensuring the safety of students is prioritized.
The policy has been revised to align with the updated police record check requirements outlined in Ontario Regulation 298/25. Revisions include the addition of many elements currently found in procedures, and updates related to the new requirements. The updates include collecting a police record check from every individual wanting to be a school volunteer, and requiring a new police record check every four (4) years. The shorter renewal period is recommended to avoid schools having to ask for and track dates of birth for all volunteers.
The revised policy is out for public consultation for 15 days after which it will return to the Policy & Priorities Committee and the Board of Trustees for review. Upon final approval, the revised policy will be posted and procedures will be updated.

Policy Statement
It is the policy of the Upper Grand District School Board to encourage and welcome the involvement of community and parent volunteers. Volunteers enhance learning opportunities for students as well as contribute to a positive school climate.
Volunteers are expected to do their part in ensuring a safe and inclusive learning and working environment for all students, staff and community members regardless of age, ancestry, colour, race, citizenship, ethnic origin, place of origin, creed, disability, family status, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, socio-economic status, employment, housing, sex, and sexual orientation.
