Policy 509 Health Support Services

Public Consultation and Policy Feedback

Public consultation on this new draft policy is now open.
Feedback will be received until July 23, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. EST.

In alignment with Policy/Program Memorandum (PPM) 81: Provision of Health Support Services in School Settings, the Upper Grand District School Board is committed to supporting students with diverse medical needs while attending school and shares responsibility for coordinating health support services in schools with students and families, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services along with the organizations designated to deliver these services in schools.

Policy 509 has been revised to maintain alignment with PPM 81. The revision expands the policy statement and includes additional details to clarify responsibilities associated with health support service delivery, authorizing the administration of medication to students in school, the limitations of services provided by UGDSB staff, and the board’s medical emergency protocol.

Feedback on the revised policy will be accepted for 30 days via the survey link below with the policy returning to the Policy & Priorities Committee and the Board of Trustees for review and consideration in the 2026-27 school year. Upon final approval, the associated  procedures will be updated and posted on the board website with the approved policy.
