Graphic announcing Treaties Recognition Week

GUELPH, ON – The Upper Grand District School Board recognizes Treaties Recognition Week from November 2-8, 2025. Treaties Recognition Week acknowledges the importance of treaties and supports students and community members in Ontario to learn about the significance of treaty rights, responsibilities and relationships as well as understand their relevance today.

This week, staff and students will be learning and exploring the resources that have been created for Treaties Recognition Week on the Educator Hub and will have the chance to participate in learning activities. Each grade level has many options and opportunities to engage students in considering their roles as treaty people.

We also encourage educators, parents, guardians and students to locate and learn about their local treaty partner using the Treaty Partners map https://www.ugdsb.ca/page/treaty-partners and from the Nation’s website:

Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss with their child(ren) what they are learning about treaties and why treaties are important to all people who live in Canada. This video is helpful in starting a conversation as to why treaties are important to everyone.
